Eric Williamson - How to Work with Jerks

How to Work with Jerks

Who among us hasn’t been in conflict with difficult people and wished we had better coping methods for dealing with it productively, and with our sanity intact? Let’s face it, conflict is unavoidable, it is inevitable, and without a clear strategy for managing it, we inevitably suffer, risk failure on the job and in our careers. This can cause us to become disengaged and unfulfilled in the workplace and ultimately, cause us to become jerks ourselves. Eric addresses these issues head-on and provides the strategies for managing conflict and cultivating workplace and client relationships so that you can work with anyone.

Your audience will:

  • Understand how to diffuse tense situations and mitigate conflict in a diverse work environment
  • Recognize how to spot a jerk and prevent becoming one yourself
  • Employ the AAA Method (Assess, Analyze, & Act) for disarming a jerk and creating a jerk-free environment

Building Successful Relationships

We don’t always get to choose the people we work with, nor the circumstances.  We do, however, get to choose how we handle the relationships with the people we work with and how we manage the circumstances. No matter how talented, gifted, or experienced and no matter what role we serve or title we carry, our level of success is not measured based on the work we produce; it is measured based on the relationships we build. The pandemic has presented even greater challenges towards managing conflict and building relationships, by limiting engagement and face-to-face interactions, and causing uncertainty and anxiety.

Participants will:

  • Learn the strategies to build trust and gain influence with the people you work with and serve
  • Communicate with clarity using consistent verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Improve interactions with those having different personalities and values
  • Build team synergy in virtual environments
